Spicy mustard is very hard to find. Now, I am not complaining about ballpark mustard (I love it); but, sometimes you just want a kick to your burger or sandwich. The one great thing about mustard, and also the one thing that many people don’t know, is it is so easy to make. Plus, once you start making your own, not only will you never go back to the bottled varieties, you will begin to develop you own combinations and mixes. It’s the easiest and cheapest way to get creative in the kitchen.
This recipe will please any sandwich lover and will also add a nice even kick to any dressing recipe that uses mustard as an emulsifier.
Makes approximately 1.5 cups of mustard
1/2 Cup mustard seeds
½ Cup finely ground mustard seed (also called mustard powder)
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp turmeric
¼ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp ground galangal (you can also use ginger)
½ tsp salt
1 tbsp honey
1 Cup white vinegar
This recipe is very easy. All you have to do is combine all the above ingredients and stir until evenly mixed. Then let the mixture rest for approximately 20 minutes and serve. That’s it!
